Roy Eugene Dickens, age 78 of Hazel Park, passed away August 13, 2019 in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was born August 29, 1940 in Lola, Kentucky, to Corbett and Byrdie Dickens. Beloved Husband of Marilyn. Dear Father of Gina (Rob) Atkinson, David Dickens and the late Donna Dickens. Loving Grandfather of Steven and Crystal Dickens and Ashley Atkinson. Great-Grandfather of Lydia and Colin Dickens. Brother of Oma Fontes, Anna Fay Dickens and Daniel Dickens. He is pre-deceased by his siblings Wayne Dickens, Maxine Gusler and Robert Dickens. He is also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews and by his loving dog Max. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 through 1965. He joined the Hazel Park police department in 1967 and retired from in 1995. After retirement, he went to work as a court officer until 2010. He was a frequent visitor at Brays in Hazel Park where he enjoyed the company he kept and their coffee. A private Memorial Service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Officer Down Memorial Fund, which can be found at www.odmp.org.
